Letter Tracing Worksheets for Preschoolers: Upper and Lower Case Practice

Preschoolers meet each letter in two forms: a capital and a small letter. Sometimes they look alike (Cc, Oo, Ss) and sometimes not at all (Aa, Gg, Rr). Practice that connects both forms helps letters stick.

Why teach both together?

Books and signs use mostly small letters, while names start with a capital. Children need to recognise both, even if they only write one at first. Pairing them from the start saves confusion later.

A simple routine for each letter

1. Say it. Say the letter name and the sound, then name an animal that starts with it.
2. Trace the capital. Follow the start points and arrows.
3. Trace the small letter. Talk about how it differs from the capital.
4. Match them. Draw a line between the capital and its small partner.
5. Find them. Hunt for both forms in a grid of letters.

Which pairs are easiest?

• Same shape, different size: Cc, Oo, Ss, Vv, Ww, Xx, Zz. Start here for quick wins.

Tips that help
