Alphabet Worksheets for Kindy: A to Z With Australian Animals

By Sadia Afrin, Early Childhood Educator ยท 4 min read

A good alphabet worksheet gives children something to look at, something to do and a reason to care.

A good alphabet worksheet does more than ask children to copy a letter. It gives them something to look at, something to do with their hands and a reason to care. Australian animals make that easy: A is for Ant, K is for Koala, D is for Dingo.

What to look for in a kindy alphabet worksheet

  • Clear letter models with start points, so children learn the correct formation.
  • Variety. Tracing, finding, colouring and matching in one page keeps attention up.
  • Big, uncluttered layouts that suit small hands.
  • Pictures that match the letter sound, so every letter has an anchor word.
  • Room to colour. Colouring builds the hand strength needed for writing.

The four-part letter page

Every letter page in My ABC Adventure follows the same four boxes:

  1. Trace the capital letter.
  2. Trace the small letter.
  3. Find and circle every matching letter in a leafy grid.
  4. Colour the animal and trace its name.

Repeating one format for every letter means children know what to do and can work more independently.

Why Australian animals?

Local animals make learning feel familiar for Aussie kids and fun and new for children elsewhere. Quokka, Yabby, Platypus and Dingo are great talking points, and plenty of children will already know a koala or a kangaroo.

How to use it at home

  • Do one letter a day for five minutes.
  • Say the letter sound each time you trace.
  • Hang finished pages on the fridge.
  • Keep a folder so children can see their progress.
