Tracing Worksheets for Preschoolers: Free Aussie Animal Pages

By Sadia Afrin, Early Childhood Educator ยท 3 min read

Tracing animal names builds pencil control and letter knowledge. Here is a free Aussie animal tracing page.

Tracing animal names is a fun way to practise letters and pencil control together. This free page features six Aussie animals: ant, dingo, galah, koala, platypus and yabby.

How to use the page

  1. Say the animal's name together.
  2. Say the first sound: a for ant, d for dingo.
  3. Trace the outlined word with a finger.
  4. Trace it with a pencil.
  5. Colour the animal if your child wants to.

Tips

  • Start with the short names like ant.
  • Longer words like platypus are harder, so take it slowly.
  • Take a break after two or three words.
  • Talk about the animals: where does a koala live?

Mix it up

  • Draw the animal and write its name beside it.
  • Spot the first letter in each name.
  • Play I spy with animal names.

Pencil Power and My ABC Adventure both give plenty of tracing practice, with friendly Aussie animals on the pages.
