Line Tracing Worksheets for Preschoolers

By Sadia Afrin, Early Childhood Educator ยท 3 min read

Curves, loops and spirals build smooth pencil movement. Here is a free line tracing page and how to use it.

Once children are happy tracing straight lines, curves and loops are the next step. These smoother shapes build control and are the basis of many letters.

What is on the page

  • A wavy line
  • A row of loops
  • A row of bumps
  • Three spirals to trace from the outside in

How to use the page

  1. Find the green dot where each line starts.
  2. Trace slowly with a finger.
  3. Trace with a pencil or crayon.
  4. Try the spirals last, as they are the hardest.

Tips

  • Slow is good. Smooth lines come with practice.
  • Try one row at a time and take breaks.
  • Use a different colour for each line.
  • Let your child draw their own loops and spirals on a second piece of paper.

Pencil Power includes line tracing pages that move gently from straight lines to curves, loops and spirals.
